GTI at NYC Climate Week

GTI participated in Climate Week, represented by Linda Andrén, engaging in a series of events and networking opportunities focused on tackling climate challenges and promoting sustainable solutions. The week was marked by insightful discussions and collaborative efforts aimed at propelling the climate agenda forward.

Central to the discussions was the UN's "Pact for the Future," which highlighted the need for multilateral cooperation through 56 actionable steps geared towards sustainability and peace. Key conversations revolved around the "State of Cities Climate Finance" report, emphasizing the urgent requirement for a fivefold increase in financial resources to achieve the critical 1.5°C warming target.

Events held at The Nest Climate Campus showcased innovative initiatives, such as harnessing tidal energy, underscoring the vital role of industry leadership in driving climate action. The dialogue is set to continue as organizations like GTI and Viable Cities collaborate to transform urban environments into climate-neutral spaces.

One notable event, "Climate Connect—Industry at the Forefront of Climate Action," was hosted by the Consulate General of Sweden in New York, supported by Business Sweden, SACCNY, the Swedish Energy Agency, and the Sweden-US Green Transition Initiative. Esteemed speakers, including Anthony J. Fiore from NYSERDA, Benjamin Dousa (Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade), Erik Ullenhag (Consul General of Sweden), and Kristen Edgreen Kaufman from the NYC Mayor's Office of International Affairs, contributed valuable insights.

Additionally, the Swedish Energy Agency International organized an accelerator program in collaboration with SACCNY, titled "Building for the Future - Advancing Climate Innovation in NYC's Built Environment."

Looking ahead, Business Sweden led a pre-COP delegation to New York during Climate Week and is set to lead Sweden's official pavilion and non-negotiating delegation at the upcoming COP, ensuring that the momentum generated during this impactful week continues in global climate discussions.
